Dreaming big

6 January 2009

I heard Wendy Davie speak at the NAPO Chicago Midwest Conference and Expo in November. Her talk, “Forward Momentum: How to Take Your Organizing Business from OK to Awesome, Fast,” was one of the highlights of the conference for me.

Wendy, who lives in New Zealand and is the president of the Australasian Association of Professional Organisers, encouraged us to dream big. She talked about creating “Fantasy Business Goals” and had us share some with our fellow participants. I was inspired to hear what other organizers wanted to do.

Wendy also encouraged us to post our fantasy goals on our blogs. She said that she did so in August 2008. (Here’s Wendy’s post with her fantasy goals.) It was fabulous to hear that after only about three months, she’d accomplished something like four of the six items on the list.

So, in the spirit of putting it out there, I’m going to share with you my top five dream goals for my business.

  • Be a well-compensated spokesperson for a product I really believe in
  • Be a sought-after speaker (again, well-paid)
  • Get paid to travel to Australia
  • Have a full schedule of ideal clients
  • Make a healthy passive income online

In the process of achieving those goals, I will help others, which is the best part of the deal, and why I got into this field.

Would you care to share your dream goals? If so, feel free to do so in the comments, or link to a blog post of your own.
