Summer blogging schedule

30 June 2022 | Comments [0] »

This summer, I’m especially busy with organizing clients and travel and trying to keep up with that blogging schedule has been stressing me out a little. So I’ve decided to relieve the pressure and commit to blogging just once a week through the rest of the summer. I’m not even going to commit to a particular day, but you can expect to see a new post once a week.

Happy 12th birthday!

14 November 2018 | Comments [2] »

On November 10, this blog turned 12. My first blog post, called What is organized?, was published November 10, 2006. I’m really grateful that my website designer, Nora Brown, suggested I start a blog. In the 12 years, I’ve written over 1200 posts, which at an average 450 words per post is a whole lot of words.

Worth repeating: Making mornings more productive

27 February 2017 | Comments [0] »

I wrote this post in October 2014 and I think it’s worth posting again. Over the couple of years, I’ve really noticed that what I decide to do first in the morning is the thing that actually gets done. I’ll blog, if blogging is a priority. Sometimes I make sure to do family history research first (because sometimes that’s a priority). I’m happy to be posting this at 8 am, so I can move on to a great day!

I don’t know about you, but if my mornings don’t go well, the rest of the day usually follows suit. I’m a morning person and I typically can get a lot done in the morning. But if I don’t, it’s hard to reboot the day and make up for it in the afternoon.

Falling back into a habit

23 March 2016 | Comments [1] »

It always amazes me how even the most engrained habits can fall by the wayside through a shift of routine. The silver lining is that once we’ve created a good habit it’s easier to get back into it than starting from scratch.

Testing out SHOTBOX, the tabletop photo light studio

10 February 2016 | Comments [0] »

Last summer, I blogged about SHOTBOX, a tabletop photo light studio that was part of a Kickstarter campaign. I purchased one and it arrived in December, just when my puppy arrived. So I haven’t played with it as much as I’d like. But I’m impressed by it.

My 1000th blog post

9 December 2014 | Comments [2] »

Today is a big day. I’m posting my 1000th post on this blog! I find it a little hard to believe. I’ve been blogging just over eight years, which averages to about 2.5 blog posts a week. Right now, I’m blogging twice a week, so it looks like I’m right on track!

My blog's 8th birthday

10 November 2014 | Comments [4] »

On November 10, 2006 I posted my first blog post. Today, I’m posting my 992nd.

Eight years of blogging feels like something to be proud of. I started the blog at the advice of my web designer, Nora Brown. Originally, my purpose was to allow my clients to get to know me before hiring me. (Since I’m not born organized, I didn’t want them expecting a super-organized perfectionist to arrive at their door.)

Making mornings more productive

15 October 2014 | Comments [0] »

I don’t know about you, but if my mornings don’t go well, the rest of the day usually follows suit. I’m a morning person and I typically can get a lot done in the morning. But if I don’t, it’s hard to reboot the day and make up for it in the afternoon.

So I got to thinking today about optimal ways for me to spend my valuable morning time. And I also thought about strategies for getting right to it in the morning.

Inbox zero: My email sanity saver

On January 2, I cleared my inbox down to zero email messages. And since then i’ve done it every work day except two, when I was out of town without my computer. That’s nearly five months of inbox zero at least five days a week. (I usually do it on the weekends as well.)

The amazing power of the chain

4 April 2011 | Comments [0] »

I’ve written here before about Don’t Break the Chain as a tool for helping create daily habits. The concept is that once you do something a few days in a row (which can be aided by marking a calendar), you psychologically don’t want to break the chain and you’re motivated to do the activity again.

My favorite blog posts of 2009

29 December 2009 | Comments [3] »

I wrote just over 150 blog posts in 2009. Last week, I clicked through them and picked out some of my favorites to share with you in this post. The first go-around, I selected 24. But I figure that’s more than you care to see in one post. So I’ve cut that number in half.

I'm a guest blogger on Someday Syndrome

7 January 2009 | Comments [0] »

Are you familiar with the terrific blog Someday Syndrome? It’s written by Alex Fayle, whom I first became familiar with back in 2006 when he was president of Professional Organizers in Canada. He’s relocated to Spain where he pursues his dream of writing fiction. He also calls himself a “Someday Mentor,” helping people live their dream lives. His blog is awesome and awe-inspiring.
