Got cabin fever?

11 December 2014 | Comments [0] »

A winter storm has hit both coasts of the US, bringing rain, snow, and generally unpleasant weather to much of the nation. If you find yourself trapped inside by the weather, here are some organizing tasks you can accomplish. (I published a similar list in a February 2010 post called snowed in?.)

As I mentioned on Monday, our orange tabby cat, Joe, passed away a week ago. Friends have been asking us whether our standard poodle, Kirby, is missing his little buddy.

A tribute to Joe

My orange tabby cat, Joe, died on Friday. I know that when we bring pets into our lives part of the bargain is that they’ll probably die before us. And it will feel way too soon. But that knowledge doesn’t make losing them any easier.

Knitting with and for cats

7 June 2007 | Comments [0] »

I adore my orange tabby cat, Joe. And he loves me. Trouble is, he often wants to love me while I’m knitting. I’ll be in my knitting spot on the couch and he’ll climb right onto my lap and start kneading my yarn. Or, worse, he’ll knead my knitting work in progress. I have a choice: I can dump him off my lap or I can put away my knitting. I’m proud to say that more than 50 percent of the time I put away my knitting.
