Worth repeating: Trying out a standing desk

12 February 2018 | Comments [1] »

We’ve all been reading recently about the health dangers of sitting all day. This is really bad news for people like computer programmers and writers who sit for hours at a stretch, in flow, while time zips by.

Giving myself a tiny break

9 June 2011 | Comments [2] »

At the end of last year, I set a goal of blogging every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I’ve been very proud of the fact that I’ve kept that up each and every week since December 27, 2010.

Are you prepared for a disaster?

4 May 2011 | Comments [3] »

Here in St. Louis, we’ve taken trips to the basement because of tornadoes at least five times this year, including the tornado on April 22 that flattened whole blocks of homes (and damaged the airport). Less than a week after that, Alabama suffered much greater tragedy in a series of tornadoes that killed 300 people.

I leave this afternoon to fly to San Diego for the annual conference of the National Association of Professional Organizers. This will be my sixth NAPO conference in a row and, as always, I’m very excited.

The down side to international travel

15 September 2009 | Comments [0] »

I’ve been home from Australia for six days now. Apart from the very first night home, when I slept long and hard after 24 consecutive hours of travel, I haven’t been sleeping properly. I’m a good sleeper (my mom’s narcoleptic…it’s in my genes) but I’ve experienced what it must be like to be an insomniac. Most nights, I’ve just not been getting sleepy at bedtime.

Automating my exercise

13 August 2009 | Comments [1] »

I’ve written about my infatuation with the Wii Fit I purchased in April. I built a routine of doing Wii Fit six days a week (I’d take Thursdays off) and was going strong. I was so enthusiastic about it that my friend Margaret Lukens of New Leaf + Company interviewed me about it and included me and my Wii Fit in a blog post she wrote about exercise this week.

Highlight reel: NAPO 2009 conference

4 May 2009 | Comments [3] »

I don’t know what made me think I’d find time to blog while in Orlando for the 2009 conference of the National Association of Professional Organizers. You’d think by now I’d know that I spend little time in my room there and when I am in my room I’m either chatting or sleeping.

Off to Chicago

14 November 2008 | Comments [0] »

I leave this afternoon to drive to Chicago with my friend and fellow organizer Karel Worley of Clearing Your Path (who, sadly, doesn’t yet have a website). We’re going to the 2008 Professional Organizer Midwest Conference and Expo. There’s a great lineup of speakers, mostly fabulous organizers from around the country (and the world — Wendy Davie, president of the Australasian Association of Professional Organizers, who lives in New Zealand, will be speaking). Other speakers include Elizabeth Hagen, Margaret Lukens, Pam McCutcheon, and Emily Wilska (whose blog was my Blog of the Week a few weeks back).
