My office is in a bedroom of my house. It has two closets, one of which is a small reach-in closet that’s original to our 103-year-old house.

The other day I cleaned out my t-shirt drawer. One of the benefits of having a friend who runs a t-shirt company and creates fabulous new t-shirts designs on a regular basis is that I’m frequently given new t-shirts. I don’t want to say no to them, because they’re wonderful. But I wasn’t employing any kind of “one in/one out” policy.

This weekend I’m once again going to the H.H. Backer Pet Industry Christmas Trade Show and Educational Conference in Chicago to help my friend, Sally Brown, with her booth for her company, Roll Over Rover Threads She sells t-shirts with dog and cat themes and at this show will be introducing tote bags and other products.

As I mentioned earlier, I went to the HH Backer Christmas Trade Show in October, to help my friend, Sally. The Backer show is a huge trade show for the pet industry.

Yesterday, I wrote a long (and trust me, really well written) blog post about my hometown of Walla Walla, Washington, where I am right now visiting family. It went on about the Norman Rockwellian nature of this town, which often seems like the land that time forgot.

I leave this morning for Chicago, where I’m going to staff my friend Sally’s booth at the H.H. Backer Christmas Trade Show. Sally is the creative and business genius behind Roll Over Rover, a company that sells design-conscious apparel for dog lovers. Sally’s illustrations are whimsical and sophisticated. I’m a proud booster.

About 15 years ago, my husband and I became a two-computer household, so we bought a computer stand at Office Depot or somewhere. At the time it didn’t seem too ugly (or maybe there was no such thing as pretty computer furniture back then).

My point: I didn’t clear off my desk yesterday before ending the work day. The reason is that end of the work day didn’t involve my desk. But still, it was a shock to arrive at my desk this morning and see some clutter on it. The worse part is that it was very little clutter—it would have literally taken about 60 seconds or less to put everything away.

Many of my clients have a difficult time making decisions. That’s not too surprising, since most of my clients are dealing with clutter issues and clutter is all about delayed decisions.

I’m catching a 6:25 a.m. flight to Baltimore this morning to attend the HH Backer 20th Annual Pet Industry Spring Trade Show and Educational Conference . It’s funny: for ten years I was a pet writer and always wanted to attend this show. But I never found a magazine to send me and didn’t have an excuse to go.
