Worth repeating: Organizing coloring supplies

4 November 2023 | Comments [0] »

I jumped aboard the adult coloring book craze last June. I loved coloring as a kid and I love it now. It’s so wonderful that so many interesting types of coloring books are available. And the coloring supplies! When I was a kid, I used Crayola crayons. Now, I use pencils, pens, markers…it feels like the sky’s the limit.

Worth repeating: Decluttering my {knitting} WIPs

24 February 2023 | Comments [0] »

I wrote this post four years ago, but I can still feel the thrill of letting go of knitting projects I didn’t want to finish and either reclaiming or giving away the yarn. Have I finished the projects I intended to finish? I don’t know! Time for another WIP decluttering session.

In knitting, WIP stands for Work-In-Progress. In my knitting reality, almost all my WIPS are actually stalled and/or abandoned projects. They languish in (mostly hand knit) bags in my knitting area creating clutter and a little bit of stress. That area was like a graveyard for knitting dreams.

December tiny projects challenge: Day 1

13 December 2021 | Comments [0] »

I love pens. And I love doing hand lettering. The combination of those two loves has led to quite a collection. I primarily do my lettering in the living room, on a clipboard while watching TV or, if I’m doing something that requires more concentration, at the dining room table. So the bulk of my pens (the ones that aren’t on my office desk) are stored in the living room.

Organizing my lettering pens

Last year I started a new hobby: Hand lettering. It was borne of my efforts to send postcards to voters for the midterm elections. Somewhere along the road of hand writing over 1,000 postcards I decided to try to learn some techniques to make the process more interesting (and to make the cards more eye-catching).

The Happiness Project Mini Posters Coloring Book: Pure joy

3 April 2017 | Comments [3] »

I love Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project. She’s a fantastic communicator with amazing ideas. I’ve heard her speak and I love the positivity of her message.

When I learned that she was creating a coloring book, The Happiness Project Mini Posters: A Coloring Book rushed to pre-order on Amazon. Then I forgot about it. What a joy it was to receive it in the mail last week!

Old jeans take on a new life in St. Louis

19 September 2016 | Comments [4] »

I wrote a blog post a few years back about Charity Sharity, an organization in St. Louis that collects fabric to distribute to groups for charity sewing projects.

Just last week I received an email from Sally Safranski of DenimQuilts, a group allied with Charity Sharity. These talented quilters take donated blue jeans and use them to create personalized quilts. Last month they created their 1,000th quilt! Most of the quilts go to kids in foster care and others go to children and families currently grieving for someone close to them who has died or is in hospice. Some are donated to charity fundraisers.

4 July 2016 | Comments [0] »

Continuing with the theme I started last week about adult coloring, I wanted to highlight an amazing coloring book I think you should know about. (And don’t forget I’m doing a giveaway this week for a set of Smead Coloring Folders!)

Smead's Coloring Folders: Review and giveaway

When I attended the annual conference of the National Association of Professional Organizers this year, the item in the trade show that got me most excited was the SuperTab Coloring Folders being sold by Smead. That’s right, coloring folders. File folders that you color on.

A storage solution for my colored Sharpies

22 February 2016 | Comments [8] »

Several weeks ago, I blogged about organizing my coloring supplies. I enjoy coloring in coloring books intended for grown ups and I use colored pencils and Sharpies primarily.

In that blog post, I showed how I organize my dozens of colored pencils. (I use Prismacolor Premier pencils.) And I mentioned that I had yet to figure out a good way to organize my colored Sharpies. At the time, they were laying flat in a box all mixed together.

How do you relax?

2 September 2015 | Comments [1] »

I think regular rest and relaxation is very, very important. It’s so easy to get caught up in work and chores and family and never take time for yourself. That’s particularly true, I think, when you struggle with disorganization and feel like you should spend all your spare time “getting organized.” (That’s a fallacy, of course.)

Unwanted fabric takes on a new life with Charity Sharity

12 March 2015 | Comments [19] »

Many of my clients are creative people who have acquired supplies for their creative hobbies, like sewing, quilting, scrapbooking, knitting and needlework. It’s the rare fiber/fabric enthusiast who doesn’t end up with a stash of supplies.

St. Louisans: A chance to turn your unwanted items into art!

3 December 2009 | Comments [1] »

This weekend is the Big Ass Indie Art and Craft Show a big craft show in St. Louis being held at Mad Art Gallery on 2727 South 12th Street. It starts Friday evening and runs all day Saturday and ends Sunday at 3 pm. Personally, I love craft shows. I so admire the craftiness, artistry, and enterprise of the people who sell things there.

Easy furniture transformation

14 July 2008 | Comments [0] »

About 15 years ago, my husband and I became a two-computer household, so we bought a computer stand at Office Depot or somewhere. At the time it didn’t seem too ugly (or maybe there was no such thing as pretty computer furniture back then).
