Worth repeating: The beauty of vertical storage

28 September 2022 | Comments [0] »

I originally wrote this post in 2019 and I’m still embracing vertical storage. So I thought I’d share this simple principle again.

To the extent possible, I love storing things vertically, rather than horizontally. Think about how files are stored in a file cabinet—it’s much easier to access them than a stack of file folders.

Organizing my Bullet Journal supplies

21 February 2022 | Comments [0] »

Earlier this week, I blogged about my love for my Bullet Journal. When I decided to start using this method, I did a little research on supplies and how to organize them so they’re handy for daily use. This is what I settled on. It’s working out well!

Worth repeating: Organizing your car

3 September 2020 | Comments [0] »

I wrote this post a few years ago and when I stumbled across it today, I decided to share it again. I have a different car now and can no longer use my knitted trash can, alas. But I got another hand-made trash receptacle for my car, which I love. If you, like me, are spending less time in your car these days, now might be a good time to organize it. You’ll have a fighting chance of keeping it organized!

The beauty of vertical storage

18 July 2019 | Comments [0] »

To the extent possible I love storing things vertically, rather than horizontally. Think about how files are stored in a file cabinet—it’s much easier to access them than a stack of file folders.

But vertical storage isn’t just for files. I love using the principle all around my house (and with clients).

Ditching my unmatching socks

25 April 2019 | Comments [1] »

I wear a lot of dark socks with my work uniform of exercise pants and black athletic shoes. And I was having a heck of a time with laundry because I was coming up with unmatched socks so frequently. I would put the singleton aside and hope its mate would appear. Sometimes it did, sometimes it didn’t. (I know this is familiar to you.)

Worth repeating: Dealing with orphan socks

19 March 2019 | Comments [0] »

Nearly five years ago, I posted about my clever clients system for handling socks that have lost their mates. I still love the simplicity and visibility of this system!

Worth repeating: I heart West Elm's dip bowls

23 October 2017 | Comments [0] »

Four years ago, I wrote this post about how much I love the little dip bowls from West Elm. My love for them has not diminished over time. And, amazingly, West Elm is still selling these little beauties, so I thought I’d repeat this post. The one thing I now use them for that I didn’t use to is dip! They really are good for that. But I like them for all sorts of things, including looking pretty.

A new wastebasket for my new car

26 June 2017 | Comments [2] »

I think having a wastebasket in your car is essential. If I didn’t, there would be empty protein bar wrappers and water bottles strewn all over the place, not to mention parking lot stubs and post-it notes. In my last car, a Honda CR-V, I had the perfect spot for my felted wool wastebasket that I knit. It did such a wonderful job and it made me really happy.

Organizing your car

21 September 2015 | Comments [9] »

Last week, a client asked me to help him organize the console and glove compartment of his car. I think that’s the first time I’ve been asked to organize a car and it was fun! In no time at all, we had his car organized so that he can find what he needs easily.

Tackling the sock challenge

20 January 2015 | Comments [0] »

Socks are such a huge challenge for so many of my clients. It seems like most have more than they can store comfortably. (And when you have items than you can store comfortably, you have clutter.)

Clever DIY divider for your hanging files

27 October 2014 | Comments [11] »

I’m a big believer in dividing files into categories. While some folks like to file folders all together in a straight A to Z formation, I prefer to put like things together. So business files are separate from personal files, for example. Depending on the number of files you have, you might have separate categories for Health, Financial, Hobbies, etc.

Dealing with orphan socks

11 August 2014 | Comments [6] »

As I toured a new client’s home recently, I was struck by the clever solution she had created in her laundry room for dealing with orphan socks. She created a sock wall!

I heart West Elm's dip bowls

26 December 2013 | Comments [2] »

While on a trip, I wandered into a “West Elm”: store and was immediately entranced by these beautiful little Textured Dip Bowls. I don’t serve a lot of dip, but I immediately saw the potential for using them to store little stuff. (My friend Aby Garvey is rubbing off on me after all these years.)

Accessorizing my new car

10 October 2013 | Comments [3] »

I bought a 2008 Honda CR-V about a month ago. It replaces an older Honda Civic. I realized I need more room to carry around the supplies I use on my team jobs. (Incidentally, I bought it on Craiglist, and it was an excellent experience.)
